CFD Analysis of Pressure Drop Reduction in PEMFC Flow Channels with Distinct Cross-Section Shapes

Proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) have great potential to produce renewable, sustainable and clean energy and reduce air pollutants to mitigate climate change. PEMFCs consist of distinct parts including anode and cathode bipolar plates having flow channels, gas diffusion layers, catalyst layers, and membrane. The flow channel geometry influences the flow and pressure drop characteristics of the channel and cell performance. In this work, a three-dimensional (3D) CFD model is built employing SOLIDWORKS and ANSYS Workbench. The innovative configurations are generated by changing the half of 0.2 x 0.2 mm square channel to 0.3 x 0.1 mm, 0.3 x 0.15 mm, 0.3 x 0.2 mm and 0.3 x 0.25 mm rectangular section at the top. The results showed that increasing rectangular section height significantly reduced pressure drop at the anode and cathode with a slight decrease in the current density at 0.4 and 0.6 V. The new configuration with 0.2 x 0.1 mm half square section at the bottom and 0.3 x 0.25 mm rectangular section at the top decreases the current density, anode and cathode pressure drop of 11%, 69% and 58%, respectively in comparison to 0.2 x 0.2 flow channel at 0.4 V. Taking into account pressure loss along the flow channels, this configuration is a good option to improve the cell performance.

Bu çalışmada, eklemeli imalat (Eİ) yöntemiyle üretilen cıvata numunesinin boyutsal doğruluğu ve elastisite modülü hesaplanmıştır. Basılı cıvata örneğinin boyutu, etkin elastisite modülü ve bilgisayar destekli tasarım (CAD) modeliyle karşılaştırılarak tespit edildi. Bu model, katı modelleme yazılımı olan SolidWorks kullanılarak tasarlandı. Numunelerin üretiminde Eİ yöntemlerinden olan eriyik yığma modellemesi (EYM) kullanılmıştır. Bu yöntemde birçok termoplastik malzeme kullanılmakla birlikte, mevcut çalışmada cıvataların üretiminde akrilonitril bütadien stiren (ABS) tipi malzeme tercih edilmiştir. Gerçekleştirilen deneysel çalışmalar ile cıvata numunelerin tek eksenli çekme mukavemeti gözlemlenmiş ve gerilme-gerinim eğrileri kullanılarak esneklikleri tespit edilmiştir. Etkin elastisite modülü, ANSYS yazılımı kullanılarak bilgisayar simülasyonu ile sonlu elemanlar analizi yapılarak oluşturuldu. Gerçek zamanlı uygulanan çekme testi sonucunda en yüksek mukavemet değeri 35.258 MPa olarak ölçülmüştür. Deneysel çalışmalar neticesinde ölçülen çekme mukavemeti değerleri ile simülasyon sonuçlarının uyumlu olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Bu çalışma, gerçek dünya uygulamalarında kullanılmak üzere 3 boyutlu baskılı ABS cıvatalarının oluşturulması, test edilmesi ve optimize edilmesinin birçok yönünün anlaşılmasına yardımcı olacaktır

Investigation of The Effect of Phase Angle on The Aerodynamic Performance of Three-Bladed Helical Savonius Wind Turbines Using Computational Fluid Dynamics Method

In this study, the effect of the phase angle of the semicircular blades between the stages on the aerodynamic performance of the three-blade, double-stage helical Savonius wind turbines (HSWT), which are vertical axis wind turbines, was examined by the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) method. In the Savonius wind turbine system, the drag force effect provides the most significant contribution to aerodynamic performance. Performance improvements that can affect drag force can provide significant advantages. For this purpose, three-bladed double-stage helical Savonius rotors with eccentricity L/H=1/2 and phase angles of the semicircular blades between the stages Ɵ=0°, 45° and 90° were designed. Solidworks R2018 is used for designs and ANSYS-Fluent 18.1 programs are used for analysis. The turbine with L/H=1/2 and Ɵ=90° was produced on a 3D printer and tested experimentally. Experiments were carried out in the T-490 air tunnel. The results obtained were used as a reference for numerical analysis and the ideal turbine model was tried to be determined. 10 different air velocities ranging between 3.83-20.35 m/s were used in the numerical analysis. As a result, an 11.64% increase in the drag force was observed by changing the phase angle from 0° to 45° in HSWT 1/2s. By changing the phase angle from 0° to 45° in HSWT 1/2s, a 10.77% rise in the drag coefficient was observed. It has been evaluated that the HSWT efficiency improved with the increment in drag force.

The effect of work value perceptions and person organization fit on job satisfaction of X and Y generation employees in hospitality businesses

The tourism industry relies heavily on human power to survive, and job satisfaction is significantly influenced by employees' perceptions of work value and person-organization fit. This research aims to explore the impact of X and Y generation employees' work value perceptions and person-organization fit on job satisfaction in hospitality establishments. A field study was conducted with 471 employees in Mersin, using a convenience sampling method. Data was collected through questionnaires and reliability and validity tests. The findings showed that work value perceptions, person-organization fit, and job satisfaction levels of X and Y generation employees differ at a significance level of 0.05. However, there is a positive and significant relationship between these factors, with person-organization fit having a positive and significant effect on job satisfaction.

Mount Erciyes and sports tourism: A study to evaluate the current situation

In the changing and developing world, people's needs and requests have also begun to vary, and this situation has given the opportunity for the emergence of alternative tourism types on the basis of the tourism sector. Sports tourism, on the other hand, has emerged as an alternative tourism type that includes the active or passive participation of individual or group participants in different branches as a niche market. In this research, it is aimed to evaluate the potential of Mount Erciyes in terms of sports tourism and to present guiding knowledge for sector and public representatives. In this direction, prioritization was made with the SWOT analysis through interviews with fourteen stakeholders in the region, and then with the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method in line with the findings obtained. Accordingly, it has been determined that Mount Erciyes has strengths and opportunities such as accessibility and being in the Cappadocia Region, as well as weaknesses and threats such as insufficient infrastructure and increased competition. In addition, it has been seen that global competition is a threat to destination, but accessibility is the most important criteria to gain a competitive advantage.

DEVELOPMENT OF A METHOD FOR CALCULATING LOADS ON IMPLANTS AND PROSTHESES USED FOR THE HUMAN SKELETON

The study proposes a novel computational approach for customizing sustainable knee disarticulation prostheses, aimed at improving the quality of life for users. A specialized calculation technique for assessing the loads and moments on the prosthesis was formulated, leveraging MATLAB for solving kinematic equations, Solidworks for motion analysis, and ANSYS Workbench for material and static analysis. The integration of these tools enabled the validation of the design and analytical outcomes. The kinematic solutions accounted for individual and prosthesis weights, analyzing linear and angular dynamics over a motion range pertinent to the prosthetic leg's function. Static analysis was executed to determine maximum force impact on the prosthesis. The study's results were conducive to identifying the most suitable prosthesis characteristics for individuals aged 20 to 80, with a height of 160-190 cm and a weight of 80-120 kg. The prosthetic design promoted ease of movement in activities requiring a range of motion, such as running and jumping. The prosthesis adapted swiftly to body movements, achieving readiness in approximately three seconds. The research underscores the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration between engineers and medical professionals to optimize the anatomical and kinematic aspects of prosthesis design.

A Numerical Study on the Large Displacement in Functionally Graded Beam under Thermal Effect

The large displacement behavior of a Functionally Graded (FG) beam under uniform thermal load is investigated numerically. Six different effects are taken into consideration when examining the large displacement behavior of the beam. These are the effects of temperature, material, geometry, slenderness, force, and boundary condition. The nonlinear numerical analysis is carried out by using the Simulation mode of SolidWorks, which is a finite element-based commercial program. As a result, the displacement of the end of the beam increase with increasing temperature, slenderness ratio, and force. However, it decreases with increase in the ratio of ceramic in Functionally Graded Material (FGM) and the width of the beam. Moreover, as expected, the maximum and minimum displacements are obtained in the beams with Clamped-Free and Clamped-Clamped boundary conditions, respectively.

Bu çalışma, savaş tercümanlarını özellikle olağanüstü durumlardaki aktif konumlarına, kültürel köprü niteliklerine ve sınırları aşma stratejilerine odaklanarak ele almaktadır. Çalışma İkinci Çin-Japon Savaşı (1931–1945) dönemi ile sınırlandırılmış olup, bu savaşta tercüman olarak görevlendirilmiş Xia Wenyun’un (夏文运/ 1906-1978) vaka incelemesi ile örneklendirilmiştir. Çalışmada özellikle Marx’ın sermaye kavramından farklı olarak tercümanın sosyal ve politik sermaye birikimini vurgulayan Pierre Bourdieu’nun “sembolik sermaye” kavramından yararlanılmıştır. Bourdieu’nun sembolik sermayesi, insanların sermaye olarak algılamadıkları belirli bir sermaye biçiminin etkisini anlatmaktadır. Bourdieu’ya göre sembolik sermaye biraz da habitus ile alakalı olup, bireyin kendisi ile alakalı olan görünüş, duruş ve konuşma gibi özelliklerini kapsamaktadır. Onun sembolik sermaye kavramı, İkinci Çin-Japon Savaşı’nda hem ajan hem de Çinli tercüman olarak görev yapan Xia Wenyun üzerinden ele alınmıştır. Çalışmada veri toplamak amacıyla China Academic Journals (CNKI) veri tabanı ve açık kaynaklardan elde edilen bilgiler ve bu alanda yazılmış kitaplar kullanılarak İkinci Çin-Japon Savaşı içerisinde tercümanların rolü incelenmiştir. Sonuç olarak tercümanların, olağanüstü durumlarla karşı karşıya kaldıklarında birikmiş sermayelerini hem kendilerini korumak hem de çıkarlarını müzakere etmek için çekinmeden kullanabildikleri sonucuna varılmıştır.

Kelebek Vana Tasarımlarında Hesaplamalı Akışkanlar Dinamiği Analizleri Kullanılarak Akış Katsayısı Özelliklerinin Artırılması

Bu makalede; çift eksantrikli bir kelebek vananın verimini arttırmak, karbon ayak izini düşürmek, enerji tasarrufunu sağlamak için gerçekleştirilen bilgisayar destekli tasarım ve prototip üretim çalışmalarına yer verilmiştir. Hesaplamalı akışkanlar dinamiği (CFD/HAD) ve sonlu elemanlar yöntemi (FEA/SEA) ile geliştirilmiş olan prototip ile klape mukavemeti arttırılmış, vana ağırlığı optimize edilmiş ve akışa karşı direnci en aza indirilerek enerji kayıpları azaltılmış bir ürün tasarlanmıştır. Simülasyon tekniklerinin yoğun olarak kullanılması ile çevreye duyarlı ve yüksek verimli vanaların rekabet koşulları iyileştirilmiş olup pazara yenilikçi bir ürün sunulmuştur. Mukavemet ve akış optimizasyonları için bilgisayar ortamında ANSYS (Fluent / CFX ve Mechanical) programı ile analizler yapılması neticesinde optimize edilen vana tasarımı gerçekleştirilmiştir. Yüksek akış katsayılarında çalışabilen ve aynı zamanda farklı bir klape tasarımı ile sektörde en düşük enerji kayıplarına sahip bir prototip geliştirilmiştir. Solidworks sürdürülebilirlik raporu ile karbon ayak izi ve toplam tüketilen enerji değerleri tespit edilmiş olmakla birlikte yerli ve yabancı rakipler arasında en az basınç kayıp değerine sahip çift eksantrik kelebek vananın tasarımı gerçekleştirilmiştir.

DESIGN AND MANUFACTURING OF A TWO-STAGE REDUCTION GEARBOX WITH 3D PRINTERS

ABSTRACT 3D printers, which have been used in recent years, enable the conversion of a digital model into a physical 3D object by placing the filament material layer by layer and can help a wide variety of industries. Digital models can be created using software such as Solidworks and Catia or data created by a 3D scanner. This study designed all parts of a two-stage reducer gearbox consisting of spur and helical gear pairs. The torques are calculated according to the input power. Shafts that can transmit torques are designed. On the other hand, gear wheels were calculated according to the total reduction ratio and were designed to transmit torques. CAD software (Solidworks) designed the gearbox parts, assembled them, and simulated them. Thus a digital model has been created. CAD models were transferred to the 3D printer. The slicing was done precisely using Cura software, On the other hand, the Marlin software reads the G codes created with Cura software sent from the computer. PLA (Polylactic Acid) was used as the filament material. The manufactured gearbox worked adequately, and the number of revolutions was reduced to 40 rpm from 800 rpm. Aerodynamic analysis of car rear spoiler with computational fluid dynamics for different angles and profiles

The aim of the study is to compare the drag coefficient, downforce coefficient, and downforce created by the spoiler by analyzing them with the help of the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) program at different wing profiles, different angles of attacks, and speeds. Solidworks was used to create the geometry for CFD analysis. ANSYS Fluent was used as the CFD analysis program. Two airfoil profiles BE153-055 and BE153-175, were selected for analysis to compare different airfoil profiles. Selected airfoils were placed at 10° and 20° angles of attack to compare different angel of attacks and analyzed at 30 (m/s), 50 (m/s) and 70 (m/s) velocities to compare different velocities. According to the analysis results, it was observed that downforce increased in direct proportion to the camber line, angle of attack, and speed. The highest downforce was obtained in BE153-175 airfoil, 20 degrees angle of attack, and 70 (m/s) speed.

Investigation of the Impact of Different Material Types on Quadcopter Ascension Performance

This study investigates the impacts of various materials depending on the quadcopter’s determined flight altitude reference. On Solidworks, three different material groups are assigned to the body of the quadcopter design created for this study, these are polystyrene, carbon fiber reinforced epoxy composite, and 7075 aluminum alloy. Regardless of the body material, polystyrene material is used in the arms carrying the wings and engines. Mass calculations are made in the quadcopter according to the determined materials. In line with the calculations, a fuzzy logic-based PD controller is used for quadcopter altitude control. The input-output gains of the fuzzy logic-based PD are adjusted manually according to the reference height values and tests are carried out in the Matlab-Simulink environment. Four different values are determined for the test reference heights; these are 1 m, 1.5 m, 2.5 m, and 5 m, respectively. The test results show that the model with the polystyrene material in the body part is more successful than the other materials for the specified reference values.

Multi System Level Driving Scenarious Based Topology Optimization of Bracket Design for 2 DoF Vehicle Simulator

This article presents a topology optimization of the motor mounting bracket in a 2-degree-of-freedom (2 DoF) vehicle simulator that is enhanced by the driving scenari-os. Firstly, a 14 DoF passenger reference application model is determined in the Sim-ulink environment. Then, common driving scenarios (Constant Radius, Double Lane Change, Fishhook, Increasing Steer, Sine with Dwell and Swept Sine) are run on 14 DoF vehicle models to test the dynamic performance of the vehicle. During the anal-ysis, accelerations in the XYZ axes are logged, and the minimum and maximum ac-celeration values on each axis are grouped separately for each driving scenario. Next, the concept design of 2 DoF vehicle simulators is created. The obtained accelerations from the driving scenarios are then run on 2 DoF vehicle simulator in the Solidworks simulation environment, and stress and deformation on the 2 DoF vehicle simulator are analyzed. During this analysis, linear actuator and axis forces are calculated ac-cording to the reaction forces on the vehicle simulator. Under the determined axial forces, the brackets are subjected to topology optimization. The obtained generative design of the bracket is reshaped by post-processing for sustainable production. The shape-optimized bracket is run again on the 2 DoF vehicle simulator with the ob-tained acceleration values from the driving scenarios, and the study is completed by performing stress and deformation analysis.

Investigation of Fluid Flow Through the Ureteral Canal with A Porous Media Approach in the Ureteral Stone Reduction Process

This study includes the examination of the stone removal process by computational fluid dynamics analysis in the kidney and ureteral canal, which is modeled as the fluid evacuation channel for the urine flow. SolidWorks 2020 R2 commercial software was used for three-dimensional modeling and Flow Simulation plugin for flow simulation analysis. The kidney with the size of 12x6x6cm and in addition to this, the ureteral canal with the largest internal diameter of 20 mm (at the kidney outlet) and the smallest diameter of 5 mm (at the canal outlet) were modeled. Pressure distribution in the presence of flow was determined in case of stone stuck in the middle part of the ureteral canal. To identify the partially occluded region allowing flow, the kidney stone region was defined as a porous medium for analysis. Four different conditions (between 0.90 and 0.99) for permeability in this region were included in the analysis to represent stone size and structure. The change in pressure-velocity distribution and its effect in the kidney area were seen at 5 different entry speeds. The effect of different permeability conditions on the pressure difference was shown graphically. The findings showed the presence of high pressure (peak 1850 mmH2O) throughout the flow volume at narrow passages and low permeability conditions, as expected. At 90% permeability, the maximum local velocity in the blockage zone was found to be 4.5 m/s and this value tends to decrease with increasing permeability. It was predicted that the pressure-velocity relationship along the flow can provide information on treatment and intervention, depending on the stone and canal structure whose properties are predetermined. It was concluded that a preliminary idea could be formed about the extent of pain due to high pressure, especially for the stone dropping process, which does not cause complete obstruction in the canal and is defined as a porous medium in this analysis.

DIGITAL INDUSTRIALIZATION IN THE TRANSITION TO 3D PRINTING TECHNOLOGY

In this article, details for the increasing properties with the help of 3D printer assisted technique of a material produced by classical sand mould casting method through a technological transformation were presented. At the same time, digital transformation studies were included with the development of online data monitoring systems in mass production. After the design studies were carried out with Solidworks, design verification research with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and finite element analysis (FEA) have been realized. Solidification, filling-time-temperature analyses, and casting simulation studies of micro and macro shrinkage were carried out using the Anycasting simulation program. Then the intensive use of simulation techniques, the activities that would increase the quality of the product with 3D printers were detailed. The microstructure investigation, chemical analyses, and mechanical tests were performed to prove the positive effect of the 3D printing system. Surface morphology determination results showed that the better outcomes have been obtained from the 3D printing reinforced system. Finally, a unique data monitoring system that could communicate with production equipment for the first time in our country without the need for any external software and license, within the scope of digital industrialization system were explained. With the commissioning of the 3D system, 44.2% increase in efficiency and 33% improvement in quality rates were achieved. The biggest advantage of this system is that the total amount of energy consumed was reduced from 197 mJ to 81 mJ.

DÖRT BACAKLI KEŞİF ROBOTUNUN PROTOTİP TASARIMI VE ÜÇ BOYUTLU (3B) YAZICI İLE İMALATI

Dört bacaklı robotlar, çeviklik, dengeli hareket ve farklı zorlu arazi şartlarına uyum sağlama yetenekleri nedeni ile keşif, arama kurtarma, tarım, inşaat ve askeri alanlarda büyük ilgi görmektedir. Ayaklı robotlara her alandan uzmanın ilgisi artarken, araştırmacılar uygun maliyetli ve yüksek manevra yetenekli robotlar geliştirmek adına çalışmalarını sürdürmektedirler. Bu çalışma, dört bacaklı bir 12 serbestlik dereceli bir robotun tasarımı, 3 boyutlu yazıcıda üretilmesi ve ileri kinematik analizine ait detaylar sunulmuştur. Robotun üç boyutlu modeli SolidWorks programında modellenmiş ve sonrasında parça modelleri 3 boyutlu baskı teknolojisi kullanılarak PLA malzemeden imal edilmiştir. Robotun her bir bacağı üç serbestlik dereceli olup, aktuatör olarak DC servo motorlar kullanılmıştır. Robotun denge ve yörünge kontrol yazılımları Arduino Mega gömülü sistem kartı üzerinde geliştirilmiştir. Robot uzaktan kumanda edilmektedir ve üzerinde yer alan RGB kamera sayesinde çevresel algılama da yapabilmektedir. Bu çalışmanın, düşük bütçeli ve kolayca imal edilebilir dört ayaklı bir robota ihtiyaç duyan araştırmacılara yol göstermesi açısından akademik çalışmalara katkıda bulunması hedeflenmiştir.

土耳其地处欧亚非交汇地带,对于东方和西方而言,它在政治、宗教、历史和经济等维度,都具有多重身份和特殊意义。20世纪30年代,土耳其汉学正式创立,其初始目的是通过中国古代典籍研究突厥历史,而非中国本身,这明显有别于欧美汉学。安卡拉大学汉学系的发展史是20世纪土耳其汉学的缩影,历任汉学系主任为汉学发展做出了重要贡献。土耳其的中国学在冷战时期开始萌芽,但直到21世纪才获得快速、全面的发展,且在近年来更加突显本国立场,有意识摆脱西方中心主义。当前,土耳其的汉学和中国学处于并重发展、相互促进的状态:传统汉学具有持久的吸引力,在多所高校迭代发展,但尚未出现较有影响力的学派或流派;中国学获得蓬勃发展,各类平台和成果不断增多,研究领域有望得到拓展,但在全面、客观认知中国的方面还有待进一步改善。本文首先将考察土耳其汉学从创立到现在的发展历程,同时分析与评估土耳其的中国研究发展成果,以及土耳其汉学与中国学研究的特征。

Başkalaşımın Octorotor Boylamasına Uçuşuna Etkisi

İnsansız hava araçları(İHA) son yıllarda popülerliği artan hava araçları olarak endüstriyel ve bilimsel çevrede dikkatleri üzerine çekmektedir. İHA’lar üzerinde bulundurduğu rotor sayısına göre isimlendirilir. Bu çalışmada döner kanat kategorisinde ve sekiz rotora sahip bir octorotor incelenmiştir. Çalışma kapsamında octorotor kol uzunlukları değiştirilerek(uzatılarak ya da kısaltılarak) başkalaşım uygulanmıştır. Başkalaşım, İHA’larda son yıllarda uçuş üzerine olan etkisinin incelenmesi konusunda araştırmacılar tarafından tercih edilen yöntem olmuştur. Başkalaşım döner kanatlı İHA’larda en yaygın olarak kol uzunluklarının eşzamanlı ya da eş zamanlı olmayan bir şekilde değiştirilmesi ile gerçekleştirilmektedir. Başkalaşımın boylamasına uçuşa olan etkisi yükselme zamanı, yerleşme zamanı ve aşım gibi parametreler kontrol edilerek incelenmiştir. Octorotor tam modeli ve başkalaşım durumuna ait dört adet modeli Solidworks çizim programında gerçeğine uygun olarak çizilmiştir. Ardından buradan elde edilen kütle ve eylemsizlik momenti değerleri ile durum uzay modeli yaklaşımı kullanılarak Matlab/Simulink ortamında 1ᵒ’lik yörüngeyi izleyen boylamasına uçuş simülasyonları oransal-integral-türev (PID) kontrol algoritması ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Octorotor matematiksel modeli için Newton Euler yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Bu yöntemde doğrusal olmayan yapıya sahip hareket denklemleri doğrusal denklemlere dönüştürülmüştür. Simülasyonlarda verilen yörünge başarılı bir şekilde izlenmiş ve tasarım performans kriterlerine göre değerlendirmeler yapılmıştır.

Orta kulak tasarımı ve akustik harmonik performansının sonlu elemanlar yöntemiyle modellenmesi

İşitme, insanlardaki beş duyudan biri olup sosyal yaşam için önemlidir. İnsan kulağının doğru ve kapsamlı bir sonlu eleman modelinin oluşturulması ses iletiminin daha iyi anlaşılmasını sağlayabilir. Bu çalışmada, insan orta kulağının bir sonlu eleman (FE) modeli geliştirilerek stapes tabanındaki titreşim nedeni ile oluşan hız ve genlik etkilerinin frekans spektrumundaki değişimi araştırılmıştır. İnsan orta kulak sistemi üzerindeki geometrik modeller, literatürdeki orta kulak bileşenlerinin özellikleri dikkate alınarak CAD yazılımı (Solidworks) ile oluşturulmuştur. FE modeli olarak Ansys yazılımı kullanılmıştır. 100 Hz ile 10 kHz frekans aralığında timpanik membrandan 90 dB SPL(ses basınç seviyesi)’ye eşit olan 0.632 Pa ses basıncı uygulanmıştır. Elde edilen sonuca göre sağlıklı insan orta kulak modelinin stapes tabanında 500 Hz'de 3.43E-05 mm'lik genlik ve 1.07E-01 mm/s’lik hızla en yüksek değerlere ulaşıldığı görülmüştür. Stapes tabanında 10 kHz'e kadar da kademeli olarak genlik ve hız değerlerinin azaldığı, sayısal açıdan da önemli bir farkın oluşmadığı tespit edilmiştir. Elde edilen bulguların literatür ile tutarlı olduğu belirlenmiştir.

The Effect of Bacillus subtilis and Fructooligosaccharide as Antibiotic Substituent on Goose Performance Parameters, Serum Biochemical Indicators and Intestinal Morphology

As antibiotics are now prohibited or heavily regulated in farming in most countries, nutritionists and veterinarians are increasingly turning to probiotic supplements, prebiotics, and synbiotics to promote animal health and improve production performance. The study aimed to evaluate the effects of Bacillus subtilis, fructooligosaccharides (FOS), and their combined use on geese, compared to antibiotics, and evaluate their suitability as an alternative to antibiotics. 240 14-day-old geese were randomly divided into five groups and were fed a basal diet or supplemented with 100 mg/kg chlortetracycline, 400 mg/kg FOS, 2x105cfu g/kg B. subtilis, or a combination of 200 mg/kg FOS and 1x105cfu g/kg B. subtilis for 56 days. The study measured the body weight, feed consumption, serum parameters, and intestinal morphology of the geese. The results showed that the combination of B. subtilis and FOS had a positive impact on the body weight, feed consumption, and serum parameters of the geese, while improving their intestinal morphology. The results suggest that the combination of B. subtilis and FOS may provide multiple benefits to animal health and performance and could be used as a suitable alternative to antibiotics.
