Make Homemade Liquid Soap in an Upcycled Jar
Over the last few years, I have become obsessed with reusing and repurposing things I find around my house. Sure, I have been recycling for 20 years now but finding a new way to use your ‘trash’ is an even better way to reduce your carbon footprint.
One of my favorite items to reuse in the kitchen is a large jar. There are just SO many different ways you can repurpose that jar in other areas of the house. Decorate the lids with washi tape or scraps of material and store beans and rice in them in the pantry.
Small jars can be used to store diy beauty products and mason jars can be turned into powdered sugar dispensers.

Now that you have enjoyed your delicious Italian dinner with CLASSICO® pasta sauce, what do you do with the jar? Just wash it out and remove the label by soaking the jar in water. For stubborn label adhesive, just rub a bit of coconut oil on it and scrub with a stiff bristled brush.
How to Turn a Glass Bottle into a Soap Dispenser

These reCAP products let you turn your CLASSICO® pasta sauce jar into a soap container, spray bottle, on the go drink container, and many other useful items. I decided to try my hand at making homemade liquid hand soap and found it incredibly easy.
Liquid Hand Soap Ingredients
To make homemade liquid hand soap you need to start with pure castile soap and distilled water. You can leave your homemade liquid hand soap unscented or add your favorite essential oils.
Just follow the directions below for incredibly inexpensive homemade liquid hand soap! (Please note: This soap is not thick and goopy like store bought soap! It is very thin but makes a really nice lather!
Homemade Liquid Hand Soap
Hand Soap Ingredients:
- 12 ounces of pure castile soap
- 1 gallon distilled water
- Essential Oils or Vanilla Extract (optional)
Directions for DIY Liquid Soap:
- Grate your bars of soap using a hand grater
- Heat the distilled water in a large pot until it is almost boiling. Remove from heat.
- Stir in your grated soap until it is melted
- Let the mixture sit for 12 to 24 hours to thicken slightly
- Stir in your essential oils or vanilla (I made a lavender vanilla combination which smelled wonderful! How much you add depends on how strong you want your soap)
- Pour the mixture into storage containers. You will need several!
- To use, pour the homemade liquid hand soap into a clean glass jar with reCAP attachment to make pumping soap easy!
